Hand-Knotted Indo-Heriz Carpet Runner
Item Details
A hand-knotted Indo-Heriz carpet runner. This wool rug, attributed to Indian weavers, is rendered in a classic Heriz palette of brick red, saffron, deep midnight blue, and cream, with prominent green highlights. It begins with a vertical row of four medallions grounded in saffron, with palmette pendants at top and bottom. The medallions rest on a brick red field, which is populated with rectilinear vines, flowers, and palmettes. Framing the field are compound borders, including a primary turtle border over midnight blue. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with ivory wool warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
