An original signed 1934 etching on laid paper by beloved Cincinnati-based artist Caroline Williams (1908 – 1988). The print depicts a portrait of a dark terrier. His fur is illustrated in fine, hectic texture, and his alert ears point straight up out of the visible image area. The print is initialed in-plate to the lower left and is signed and dated in graphite just below this. It is matted in white and presented without framing. Williams worked as a sketch artist at the Cincinnati Enquirer from 1932 until her death in 1988, at the age of 80. Williams lived in Burlington, Kentucky, a community close to Cincinnati, where she owned Penandhoe Press.
Condition
- paper is quite yellowed with age and has spotted foxing beginning to develop. Matting has scuffing and denting across.
