A graphite drawing on paper landscape scene by Cincinnati born artist Albert Robert Valentien (American, 1862-1925), executed in 1888. Depicted is a sketchy outline of a small structure among a plain landscape. Signed to the lower left. Presented with a white mat and foam core backing wrapped in a protective acetate covering.
Albert Valentien was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1862. He first began his artistic career with Wheatley Potters and then moved on to serve as artistic director for Rookwood Pottery. In the early years of the 20th-century, Robert moved to San Diego where he began to paint full time. His paintings can be found in the San Diego Museum of Natural History, the California State Library, and the State Capitol Building in Sacramento. He also founded the Valentien Pottery Company with his wife Anna Marie.
