A large hand-knotted Savonnerie style wool area rug. It has a palette of gold, black, pale yellow, ruby red, burgundy, pale French rose and blush, ivory, ecru, citrus orange, taupe, peach, and shades of light and dark green. The field features a large central cartouche framing a floral medallion surrounded by a ring of roses and rose leaf designs, breaking the main border with large lyre-shaped crests containing scrolled leaves continuing the floral garland. The center field and vivid border feature tone-on-tone geometric patterning behind the foliar designs. Attached cotton fringe at each end. Unmarked.
