A chromolithograph on paper A Funny Lot of Life-Savers by American cartoonist Louis Dalrymple (1866-1905). This political cartoon dated July 5 1893 from Puck Magazine, which was published from 1871 – 1918, shows a group of men in a sinking boat rescuing a man overboard with a life preserver. At the base of the illustration, there is text that reads, Financial Crisis. In the lower margin the text reads, A Funny Lot of Life-Savers., Uncle Sam – I’m all right gentlemen, with this life-preserver – you’re the ones who need help!. It is marked J. Ottmann Lith Co. Puck Building NY. The print is signed in plate to the lower left. This piece is presented triple matted in patriotic red, white, and blue, behind glass, and in a gold tone metal frame. The verso of this piece is equipped to hang.
Condition
- the print has a crease in the center and several spots of water damage throughout.
