Antique Victorian Majolica By Griffin ,Hill and Smith Etruscan and Sarreguemines

A collection of Victorian majolica plates. Featured are seventeen pieces, including plates and a compote. There are examples from France, England and the United States all made between 1870-1910. The French piece was produced at the Sarreguemines factory and has a leaf motif with a black rim. The is also an Etruscan Majolica plate made by Griffin Hill and Smith with a mottled interior and yellow palm border. Other examples are unmarked and have strawberry decoration, begonia leaves, grape leaves and a sunflower, all popular motifs of the period. Impressed marks on the underside read ‘Etruscan Majolica GSH’ and ‘Sarreguemines’.
Condition
- crazed, stains a hairline crack and one area of restoration.
