Semi-Antique Hand-knotted Kazak Area Rug
Item Details
A semi-antique Kazak area rug. This wool rug is hand-knotted in a palette of camel, cream, terracotta, cocoa, and pink. It begins with a rectangular terracotta panel, which is filled with arrowhead trefoils and squares and diamond medallions with in-pointing arrows. The rug has short pile, with the exception of one small area where lilac pile has been added. Framing the field is a lozenge grounded in cream, featuring a stylized tulip meander pattern, most commonly seen in borders but used here as a central feature. Lateral reciprocal sawtooth borders in pink and ivory likely once wrapped around the field; their remnants have been trimmed away. Selvedges are double overcast, the rug finishing at each end with short wool warp fringe.
