An oil painting on canvas Dalgety Depot at Mt Morgan, QLD by Australian artist Robert Pope (1939). This landscape painting depicts a scene from Dalgety Depot in Australia. Two figures and a horse and carriage are visible in front of a grouping of buildings. The foremost building has the words Billy Tea and a Kangaroo picture on the side facing the viewer. Behind the buildings are pale blue hills which contrast strongly with the yellow orange foreground. The painting is painted with angular passages and areas where the paint has been blended on the canvas for a fresh a la prima feel. The piece is signed in white to the lower right and titled, also in white, to the lower left. The painting is presented in a gold tone metal frame mounted on a fabric liner inside a gold tone carved wood frame. The verso of this painting includes a document with biographical information about the artist. Additionally, the piece is equipped to hang.
Condition
- there is some discoloration to the outer frame. Raw canvas edges are visible in some places along the inner frame. The fabric liner has minor fraying in some areas.Dimensions
