An original graphite and pastel drawing on paper by 20th century Cincinnati artist Carl Schmuelling (1906 – 2009), titled Zebra Mare & Colt II. As the title suggests, the drawing depicts an adult and child zebra standing against an empty gray background, the child tucked snuggly beneath the head of the mother. The drawing is signed, titled, and dated 11-22-85 in graphite to the lower left. It is double-matted in gray and white and is presented behind glass in a wooden frame with brushed silver tone finish and a hanging wire. Information about the piece is written to the verso. Schmuelling had a successful architectural career before studying art at the Cincinnati Art Academy post-retirement. His work was primarily inspired by Cincinnati and Floridian landscapes and wildlife.
