A hand colored aquatint engraving after an original painting titled A Boat Destroy’d by a Wounded Whale by W. J. Huggins. This print depicts a ship on the ocean in the distance surrounded by a group of smaller wooden row boats hunting whales. One of the injured whales destroys a small rowboat to the right of the composition. The print features printed text along the bottom margin reading ‘Painted by W.J. Higgens, Marine Painter to his Majesty: The Head of a large Whale in the Agonies of Death.’ and ‘Engraved by T. Sutherland.’ In large font along the bottom of the print is printed ‘South Sea Whale Fishery,’ along with a description. This print is housed in a wooden frame with gold tone painted detail.

-image in good condition; paper is toning around the edges; under glass; gold tone wood frame showing scratches and dents around the frame, lower left hand corner of the frame is detaching.bottom left corner of frame meeting is uneven.
