An original, hand colored woodblock print by well-listed American artist Edgar Louis Yaeger (1904-1997). Artwork depicts an angel in a red robe flying along-side stylized birds, while playing a horn against a blue sky. Signed by the artist and titled Christmas 1982 in pencil along the lower margin. Presented under glass in gold and white matting in a distressed, gold tone wooden frame. Piece was purchased at Cincinnati Art Gallery.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
