An early 20th century original oil painting on board by French artist Ben Carré (1883 – 1978) titled High Tide. The image depicts a golden rocky coastal scene at high tide, the delicate blues and violets of the sky are reflected on the tranquil ocean waves below. The painting is mounted in an ornate gilded, gesso wood frame with hanging wire. Signed to the lower right corner. Written to the verso, Mare Nostrum d’etal Baie de Marseilles 1910.
Carré was a classically trained French artist who emigrated from Paris to the United States in 1912 to work in the Film Industry as an artistic director of film and production design.
Condition
- 3/8" scratch on art and several small marks, possibly made during creation.
