Courttney Cooper (Cincinnati, b. 1977) Ball Point Pen Map on Pieced Found Paper
Item Details
Ink Wash
A large, intensely complex aerial map in ball point pen on collaged found paper, drawn from memory by Courttney Cooper (Cincinnati, Ohio, b. 1977). The map is pieced fragments, literally dozens, glued and taped together to create an aerial view of downtown Cincinnati and her surrounding neighborhoods illustrating buildings, streets, geological details and modes of transportation. What makes the map artistic and unique are the exuberant notations added by Courttney, rather obsessive ‘doodling’ making clear his fascination with local events to include Oktoberfest, WEBN fireworks, Balloon Fest and German Culture in general. Upon close inspection, the layering of imagery in combination with Courttney’s comments and observations lends to hours of gradual discovery by the viewer. The map is signed by the artist and dated 2011, it is offered unframed and has been stored rolled in a large cardboard tube.
