A 1906 mezzotint etching on paper by S. Arlent Edwards (1862-1938) after La Belle Ferronniere attributed to Leonardo Da Vinci (1452-1519). This portrait depicts a young woman in a rich red gown wearing a ferronniere (jeweled headband). The subject of the painting is unknown, but she may be Lucrezia Crivelli, mistress of Ludovico Sforza, or Beatrice d’Este, the wife of Ludovico Sforza. The piece is unsigned, but includes printed labels affixed to the verso. It is presented on octagonal shaped paper behind glass in a wooden frame with a wire to the verso for hanging.
