Hand-Knotted Persian Abadeh Area Rug
Item Details
A Persian Abadeh area rug. This wool rug is hand-knotted in a palette of cranberry, midnight blue, sapphire, and ivory. It begins with a quatrefoil ram’s horn medallion at the center of the field, the medallion repeated in the same size in each corner. Surrounding the medallions, in a cranberry lozenge as well on the midnight-blue field, is a lively array of tree of life motifs, four-legged animals, birds, florets, pinwheels, serpents, vases, and stepped lappets. The field is framed by compound borders, including meandering florals over ivory or cranberry. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with short kilim skirts and long ivory cotton warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
