Large Coronation China and Enamelware Collection Including King Edward V III

A large coronation china and enamelware collection including Allerton’s, Colclough, and a cup with Edward VIII’s coronation date. The fourteen pieces in this lot feature commemorative tableware or display items concerning the British monarchy since the late 1800s of Queen Victoria through the crowning of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. A highlight of this set is a cup that was made before King Edward VIII’s coronation in 1937; he had abdicated by December 1936. It is paired with a cup commemorating his successors King George VI and Queen Elizabeth and their coronation of May 12, 1937. Both cups, without handles, are marked ‘Royal Doulton’. This group features two dishes with the portraits of a young King George V (reigned 1910-1936) and Queen Mary; one unmarked plate with delicate gilt lace accents reads ‘May Their Reign Be Glorious’. The other plate, with a reticulated rim, is marked to the back ‘Victoria – Austria’. A plate celebrating King Goerge VI and Queen Elizabeth to Canada and the US in 1939 is marked to thte base ‘Colclough China – Made in Longton – England – Genuine Bone China’. A plate with Queen Elizabeth II’s portrait reads ‘June 2nd Coronation 1953’; it is marked on the back ‘Tuscan Fine English Bone China – Made in England’. A dish with portraits of Queen Victoria as an old and young woman is marked on the back ‘Allertons – England – Victoria’. A 1939 Aynsley bone china candy dish features portraits of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. A gilt edged cup commemorates the Silver Jubilee of George VI and Mary in 1935. Antique collectibles include an unmarked cup celebrating the coronation of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra in 1902; a Jun 1902 ‘Coronation Dinner’ cup from Royal Doulton; a matching pair of unmarked cups celebrating Queen Victoria’s sixty years on the throne (1837-1897); and unmarked cups with portraits of Queen Alexandra and King George V and ‘1902’ on the sides.
