Exceptional Persian Framed Antique Handwoven Silk Termeh Cloth
Item Details
An exceptional, framed antique handwoven silk Termeh cloth. This beautiful woven cloth is rendered in a bright blue with madder red, black, and powder blue threads, having an overall split and lancet leaf and floral pattern around a central star pendant medallion. The medallion is framed by mirrored boteh forms, which are echoed in a larger size in the spandrels. The elements are embellished with imitation pearls, with the boteh forms outlined with applied silk cording in an ivory color. The primary border around the field features repeated mirrored boteh and ‘mother-daughter’ boteh form in the field colors, framed by guard borders with a smaller scale boteh pattern in the same colorway. The weaving is presented under glass, housed in an antiqued gold-painted ogee frame with decorative floral and scrolled elements in relief, having a wheat-colored mat around the textile. A hanging wire is present to the verso. The weaving is not signed or labeled.
