A pair of hand colored engravings by James Thomson (English 1788 – 1850) after paintings by Edmund Thomas Parris (English 1793 – 1873) titled The Arrival and The Bridal Eve. The Arrival depicts two women standing on a high above the countryside overlooking the arrival of soldiers on horseback. The Bridal Eve depicts an elegantly dressed woman attended by two other women and is subtitled ‘Her eye doth emulate the diamond’. Each print is mounted under glass with a French lined mat in a carved wooden frame with a gilded finish. The frames are fitted with wire for hanging.
Condition
- mat burn to the margins of both prints; minor wear to the frames; tears to paper on verso.
