Tufted and Carved Chinese Nichols-Style Area Rug

A hand-tufted and carved Chinese area rug. This wool rug is rendered in a palette of sapphire, apricot, mint, mauve, and shades of brown. It features a Nichols-inspired design, with large clusters of flowers, leaves, and branches at diagonally opposite corners of a sapphire-colored field, with smaller clusters at the other corners. A geometric meander pattern in apricot serves as the main border, over and under which curl leaves, flowers, and branches. Selvedges are bound. Ends finish with long, applied cotton fringe. The rug has a full fabric backing. It is unlabeled.
