Art Werger Mixed Media on Paper Streetscape
Item Details
A mixed media on black paper streetscape by listed artist Art Werger (American, 1955- ). The untitled 1991 work depicts a night scene, typical of Werger’s oeuvre with an evocative scene of isolation and tension reminiscent of film noir cinema, with a rooftop view of houses lit from the inside with glowing lamps, a mysterious fog enshrouding the street. On the porch of the center house, a man holding a child climbs down the porch steps, another window gives a voyeuristic view of someone reading a book in bed, giving the scene a sense of detachment to the cinematic ambience unfolding around the neighborhood. The piece is displayed under acrylic in a white mat and black frame. Wired to the back for wall hanging. Werger grew up in New Jersey, earned his BFA from Rhode School of Design and MFA from the University of Wisconsin, and since 2000, acts as the Director of Foundations and Professor of Printmaking at OU in Athens, Ohio. Art Werger’s art has received many awards and been displayed in numerous international and national exhibitions. They are included in corporate and museum collections such as the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., Boston Public Library, Brooklyn Museum, Philadelphia Museum of Art, and Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
