An oil painting on canvas of a beach landscape by well-listed American Abstract Expressionist, Paul Chidlaw (Cincinnati, 1900 – 1989). The painting features rapid, textured strokes of vibrant hues and depicts an expansive blue ocean and a sandy beach rendered in peach tones. It is signed by hand in paint to the lower right corner. It is presented without glass in a gray, distressed wooden frame with a metal hanging wire to the verso. This painting is presented with several newspaper clippings with additional information on the artist.

Paul Chidlaw was born in Cleves, Ohio and studied at both the Cincinnati Art Academy and L’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Fontainebleau, France. He returned to Cincinnati where he then taught at the Art Academy mentoring many students. He was considered a pioneer of the Abstract movement, at the time, and he remains one of Cincinnati’s best-loved native artists. His artwork is displayed in the Cincinnati Art Museum and Xavier University.
