Antique Imari Style Staffordshire Covered Dish with Lion Finial

An antique Staffordshire covered vegetable dish, hand painted in the Imari style with a domed lid having a lion head finial. The dish is skillfully illustrated in detail to depict a fenced landscape with bamboo sprouts and an arabesque foliate and floral border in a cobalt blue, iron red and Celadon green palette. The lion head finial is notable as it is well sculpted with humanized features and hand painted details. An extremely faint blue ink-mark is barely noticeable, but indiscernible at the underside. The dish is shaped with a notched corner at the right side, it was designed to be one in a set of four covered dishes.

Condition

One repaired chip to the front notched corner.
