Peter Keil Original 1992 Neo-Expressionist Oil Painting on Board "Clown Frown"
Item Details
An original 1992 oil painting on composite board by well-listed German Neo-Expressionist painter Peter Robert Keil (born 1942), titled Clown Frown. The piece depicts the face of a smiling figure waring a funny yellow and pale pink hat set against a vivid green background, all outlined in thick, black strokes. The painting is signed and dated to the lower right, and is dated, titled, and noted ‘Mexico’ in ink to the verso. This work is unframed, awaiting presentation of choice.
Influenced by German Expressionism and graffiti elements, Keil is known for his simplified abstractions of traditional art subjects. He studied under Otto Nagel at a young age and developed relationships with other renowned artists such as Joan Miro. As Keil abandoned realism and developed his signature style, he used more vibrant colors rapidly applied with large gestural brushstrokes resembling the abstract style of Picasso.
