Mark Coomer Serigraphs of Architecture, Masks, and More

Item Details

In Plate

An assortment of serigraphs of architecture, masks, and figures on board by listed artist Mark Coomer (1914-2004). This group of ten prints features depictions of Meso-American style masks titled Maya and Aztec, facades of buildings and row houses, and more. Also included is a print of the New York skyline from a park and a Japanese woman holding a scroll. One final print of figures on a street is signed ‘Beaugereau’ as opposed to the others signed by Coomer. All pieces are signed in print to a lower corner and are presented without frames or hanging hardware.

Born in Bay City, Michigan, Mark Coomer studied art in Chicago and Detroit before eventually settling in Arizona. He is known for his paintings and serigraphs, often depicting street patioscapes and urban city scenes. Coomer did almost all of his own printing, limiting his editions to 100. His preferred ground for his prints was masonite board, which combined with the permanent nature of his oil-based inks, were advertised as “washable”. Coomer exhibited his paintings and limited edition serigraphs nationally, and many can be found in private collections and institutions including the Chicago Art Institute; Challis Galleries, Laguna Beach, California; and The West and Walter-Bimson Western Art Collection housed at the University of Arizona Museum of Art.
