Mark Coomer Serigraphs of Urban and Rural Landscapes

Item Details

In Plate

A collection of serigraphs of urban and rural landscapes on board by listed artist Mark Coomer (1914-2004). These nine prints include unsigned renderings of figures in a canoe, and trees in marshy water, as well as depictions of western-style structures and a man tilling a garden. Most pieces are signed in print to a lower corner and all are presented without frames or hanging hardware.

Born in Bay City, Michigan, Mark Coomer studied art in Chicago and Detroit before eventually settling in Arizona. He is known for his paintings and serigraphs, often depicting street patioscapes and urban city scenes. Coomer did almost all of his own printing, limiting his editions to 100. His preferred ground for his prints was masonite board, which combined with the permanent nature of his oil-based inks, were advertised as “washable”. Coomer exhibited his paintings and limited edition serigraphs nationally, and many can be found in private collections and institutions including the Chicago Art Institute; Challis Galleries, Laguna Beach, California; and The West and Walter-Bimson Western Art Collection housed at the University of Arizona Museum of Art.
