Mark Coomer Serigraphs of Architecture

Item Details

In Plate

A selection of serigraphs by listed artist Mark Coomer (1914 – 2004) of architecture. These eight prints on masonite and canvas board depict stylized renderings of various apartment buildings and storefronts in the city, which range in styles from Victorian, Creole and Colonial. To the lower corners of each composition is an in-plate artist signature.

Born in Bay City, Michigan, Mark Coomer studied art in Chicago and Detroit before eventually settling in Arizona. He is known for his paintings and serigraphs, often depicting street patioscapes and urban city scenes. Coomer did almost all of his own printing, limiting his editions to 100. His preferred ground for his prints was masonite board, which combined with the permanent nature of his oil-based inks, were advertised as “washable”. Coomer exhibited his paintings and limited edition serigraphs nationally, and many can be found in private collections and institutions including the Chicago Art Institute; Challis Galleries, Laguna Beach, California; and The West and Walter-Bimson Western Art Collection housed at the University of Arizona Museum of Art.
