Item Details
A hand-knotted Northwest Persian pictorial area rug. This wool rug features a depiction of a man in a headscarf, with earrings, a fine necklace, and black robe over an abrashed red field, which is filled with a multiplicity of motifs. These include large peacocks, trees of life in several forms, florets, and other abstract motifs. The palette is madder red, black, ivory, and cornsilk. Framing the field is a meandering carnation pattern over cream. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with short wool and goat hair warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
