Antique Hand-Knotted and Woven Anatolian Prayer Rug

Item Details

An antique Anatolian prayer rug. This textured wool rug is hand-knotted and woven in a faded palette of madder red, mauve, mocha, cream, apricot, and ivory. It begins with a corbelled red mihrab over a mauve field. Framing the mihrab are four borders. These include a wide floral main border over mocha, made from rectangular panels cut from a different rug and sewn together. Selvedges are double overcast, the rug finishing at each end with short kilim skirts in bands of color, and unbound natural wool warp fringe. Unlabeled.
