A mixed media of watercolor painting, charcoal drawing and graphite sketch lines on paper depicting a market scene by Winnetkan artist Anita Willets Burnham (American, 1880-1958). Fruit and vegetable carts crowd the cobblestone streets as people come to shop at the market. A women crouches over her produced covered by a large umbrella. Signed to the lower left in graphite. Presented with two green mats, under glass, and housed in wood frame.

Anita Willets was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1880. Raised in Chicago, she attended the Art Institute of Chicago and later the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts. Anita painted and sketched when she had time raising her family of four children. She became a faculty member at the Art Institute and helped found the North Shore Art League, of which she was a lifetime member.
