Large Semi-Antique Hand-Knotted Turkish Area Rug
Item Details
A large, semi-antique Turkish area rug. This wool rug, attributed to western Anatolian weavers, is hand-knotted in a palette of cherry, cerulean, cobalt, saffron, orange, and taupe. It features a bright harshang field incorporating large, stylized palmettes amid smaller palmettes, flowers, leaves, and vines over a cherry-red field. The field is framed by five borders, including a stylized herati main border grounded in taupe, featuring palmettes, flowers, leaves, and vines. Selvedges are single overcast, the rug finishing at each end with short ivory wool warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
