A collection of six books on frontier exploration and related topics, published between 1977 and 1982 as part of the Franklin Library’s 100 Greatest Masterpieces of American Literature series. These limited edition books are bound in full leather with raised bands, gilt page edges and gilt cover decoration; this collection also includes the editors’ notes booklet for each book. The books in this collection are The Flowering of New England 1815–1865 by Van Wyck Brooks, The Frontier in American History by Frederick Jackson Turner, The Journals of Lewis and Clark, The Country of the Pointed Firs and Other Stories by Sarah Orne Jewett, Letters from an American Farmer by J. Hector St. John de Crèvecoeur and The Oregon Trail by Francis Parkman.
