A collection of five books published between 1981 and 1984 as part of the Franklin Library’s 100 Greatest Masterpieces of American Literature series. These special edition books are bound in full leather with raised bands, gilt page edges and gilt cover decoration; this collection also includes ‘Notes from the Editors’ booklets for four of the books. The books in this collection are Walden and A Week on the Concord and Merrimack Rivers by Henry David Thoreau, Poems and Essays by Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman.
