A collection of five books published between 1978 and 1984 as part of the Franklin Library’s 100 Greatest Masterpieces of American Literature series. These special edition books are bound in full leather with raised bands, gilt page edges and gilt cover decoration; this collection also includes the ‘Notes from the Editors’ booklet for four of the books. The books in this collection are Abraham Lincoln: The Prairie Years and The War Years by Carl Sandburg, Abraham Lincoln: His Speeches and Writings, Selected Writings of Thomas Paine, The Life and Selected Writings of Thomas Jefferson, and The Federalist by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison and John Jay.
