"The Red Cap" Engraving after George Lance

An engraving after The Red Cap by English artist George Lance (1802-1864). This print, after a painting in the collection of the Tate, depicts a monkey in a cap amidst a collection of still life objects. The scene is set within a stone alcove with a draped curtain pulled to the side. The monkey, caught mid action, has a mischievous expression on its face. The print is marked W. Taylor, Sculpt to the lower right and G. Lance, Pinxt to the lower left. Titled Red Cap. to the lower center margin. Matted in white and presented behind glass. The frame is constructed in wood covered in a silver tone metal foil. Frame finish is scratched in several places and one corner is separated.
