Hand-Knotted Persian Bijar Area Rug
Item Details
A Persian Bijar area rug. This exuberantly patterned wool rug is hand-knotted in a palette of burgundy, gray, electric blue, cobalt, hot pink, fuchsia, ivory, and blue-black. It begins with an eight-lobed star medallion outlined in electric blue. The medallion rests on a burgundy field, which is densely populated with naturalistic cabbage roses, lotus blooms, palmettes, vines, lancet leaves, and sprays of wildflowers. Framing the field are compound borders, including a herati primary border grounded in blue-black, with palmettes and roses. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with short cotton warp fringe. It is labeled on the reverse.
