"The Cottage Door" Engraving after Thomas Gainsborough

An engraving after the painting The Cottage Door by English artist Thomas Gainsborough (1727-1788). In this depiction of rural english life in the 18th century, a woman and several children appear in front of a rustic cottage. The original painting is well known and is in a private collection. The print is marked C. Cousen Sculpt to the lower right and J. Gainsborough R.A. Pinx, to the lower left. It is titled The Cottage Door to the lower center margin. Matted in white and presented behind glass. The frame is constructed of wood covered in a silver tone foil. The frame is separating in two corners and has been scratched and gouged in several places.
