Kenney Mencher Original Oil on Canvas

Item Details

An original signed oil on canvas by listed artist Kenney Mencher (American, 1965-). The 2003 work depicts a long-haired woman with a contemplative demeanor, dressed provocatively in a gray slip dress, seated at an orange bar with a half-filled glass of red wine. The background is moody, with purple panels to the right and a seated musician below. The painting’s subject is a fit with Mencher’s oeuvre with his depictions of ambiguous scenes with common themes of half-filled (or half-empty) glasses shown thematically in a film noir approach with sequential narratives. The work is signed and dated to the lower right corner, in addition to the back, and displayed in a gilded wooden frame with black mat. Mencher earned a master’s in art history from University of California, Davis and a MFA from the University of Cincinnati. His work is widely exhibited and collected with installations at Octavia’s Haze Gallery and at Varnish Fine Art in San Francisco, at the Los Gatos Art Museum, at the Triton Museum of Art in Santa Clara, California, in the ‘Lucky Seven’ group show at the Dahlia Woods Gallery in Dallas, and at Amrithika Gallery in Palo Alto, along with a show ArtHaus in San Francisco, which was reviewed in ARTWORKS Magazine and American Artist. Additional information on the artist is included in the link.
