Semi-Antique Hand-Knotted Anatolian Kurdish Tribal Area Rug
Item Details
A semi-antique Anatolian Kurdish area rug. This wool rug is hand-knotted in a palette of raspberry, crimson, pink, tangerine, and black. It begins with a vertical row of three polygonal medallions, each enclosing an Arabatchi gul at the center, surrounded by flower heads. The medallions rest on a raspberry-colored field, which is filled with symmetrically arranged flowers, stars, and flowering plants on which songbirds are perched. Compound borders feature meandering tulip and meandering carnation patterns. Selvedges are double overcast, the rug finishing at each end with short cotton warp fringe. Unlabeled.
