An original watercolor portrait by Thelma Walter (American, 1911 – 2000). This portrait of a young woman is rendered in a muted palette of rust and soft grays to ivory-hued watercolor paper. It is signed within image to the lower left and presented under a single mat in a wooden frame with gold-tone accents. It is protected by clear glass and hangs by a wire to the verso.

Thelma Walter worked in a variety of mediums, but primarily watercolors. She won numerous awards in juried shows during her career that spanned several decades. She exhibited in New York, Boston, Florida, Cincinnati, and Columbus, Ohio. According to a personal letter written by her son, Thelma “painted to give joy and meaning to people’s lives.”
