Hand-Painted Italian "Palio Di Siena" Plates

A collection of ten hand-painted Italian Palio Di Siena plates, commemorating the long-running horse race in Siena, Italy. Each plate depicts the crest and colors of one of the traditional teams. Teams included are Oca, or ‘Goose;’ Pantera, or ‘Panther;’ Leocorno, or ‘Unicorn;’ Bruco, or ‘Caterpillar;’ Lupa, or ‘She-Wolf;’ Selva, or ‘Forest,’ depicting a rhinoceros beneath a tree; Drago, or ‘Dragon;’ Istrice, or ‘Crested Porcupine;’ and Chiocciola, or ‘Snail.’ Two Selva plates are included, for a total of nine teams and ten plates. Each plate has a plate hanger attached to the verso; five rosewood plate stands are also included. Each plate is marked with the team name and ‘Made in Italy’ to the verso.
