Hand-Painted Italian "Palio Di Siena" Plates

A collection of ten hand-painted Italian Palio Di Siena plates, commemorating the long-running horse race in Siena, Italy. Each plate depicts the crest and colors of one of the traditional teams. Teams included are Oca, or "Goose;" Pantera, or "Panther;" Leocorno, or "Unicorn;" Bruco, or "Caterpillar;" Lupa, or "She-Wolf;" Selva, or "Forest," depicting a rhinoceros beneath a tree; Drago, or "Dragon;" Istrice, or "Crested Porcupine;" and Chiocciola, or "Snail." Two Selva plates are included, for a total of nine teams and ten plates. Each plate has a plate hanger attached to the verso; five rosewood plate stands are also included. Each plate is marked with the team name and "Made in Italy" to the verso.
