An oil painting on canvas titled Estel by Edgar Yaeger (American, 1904-1997), executed in 1984. Seated in a mid-century modern style chair is a short haired woman in an elegant dress and gold jewelry. Pale pink and violet drapery hangs behind the woman. Signed and dated to the lower right in paint. A gallery label is present to the verso. Presented without glass and housed in a green painted beveled wood frame with embossed art deco style sight.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
