A grouping of six woodblock prints from the Hokusai Manga: Transmitting the Spirit and Revealing the Form of Things: Random Drawings of Hokusai series, by Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1879). Hokusai was a well known ukiyo-e painter and printer during the Edo period and one of his most well known works is The Great Wave off Kanagawa from the ‘Thirty-six Views of Mt.Fuji’ series. Published in fifteen volumes from 1814 to 1878, the Hokusai Manga depicts sketches of everyday life, animal studies, plants, and landscapes. Four of the prints have vivid orange colored mats, while two have a peach colored mat. They are not marked.
