An original antique 18th-century engraving on paper after an original illustration by well-listed German painter and printmaker Salomon Kleiner (1700 – 1761), engraved by German printmaker Johann August Corvinus (1683 – 1738). The piece depicts a St. Francis de Sales church and abbey with figures milling about its wide yard. A description of this August 1717 scene is printed twice in-plate to the lower margin. Both artists’ names are printed to the lower corners, and the image is marked as plate ‘30.’ in an unknown publication to the upper right. The print is matted in white with several hand-drawn French lines and is presented behind glass in a wooden frame with striped gold tone and green finishes. A hanging wire is attached to the piece’s verso.
Condition
0 paper is very yellowed and has foxing across. Spotty water damage across matting of piece.
