A 1901 limited edition of The Works of William Makepeace Thackeray in twenty-six volumes. The Charterhouse Edition, published by the J. B. Lippincott Company of Philadelphia in 1901, reproduces over 1800 black-and-white illustrations which originally accompanied the works, including illustrations by Thackeray himself. The twenty-six tall octavo volumes are bound in buckram-covered boards with paper spine labels, gilt tops and deckle edging. Text opposite the title page of the first volume reads ‘Only One Thousand Copies of this Edition have been printed for Sale in the United States of America. This Copy Is Number 684.’
