An oil portrait on canvas of an elderly gentleman by listed American artist Florence Julia Bach (1887-1978), created in 1933. This half-body portrait features a three-quarter view of an elderly gentleman wearing a suit and a blue tie. Seated in a posh interior, the subject stares out to the viewer with a slight grin on his face. The painting is signed and dated to the lower right. It is presented in a textural gold-tone wood frame.
A New York native, Florence Bach received art training at the University of Buffalo, the Buffalo Art Students League, and the Art Students League of New York City under the tutelage of William Merritt Chase and Frank Vincent Dumond. She continued her studies at the Ecole de Beaux Arts in Fontainebleau, France under Monsieur Le Jeune. She is known for her realistic portraiture and floral still lifes.
