West African Style Carved Wooden Mask

Item Details

A West African style carved wooden mask. This mask features narrow eyes, a long, slender nose and pursed lips. The ears have been strung with green and red threaded tassels, which is mirrored on the protruding, conical face adorning the headpiece. The surface has been etched into with linear and cross-hatched marks to indicate fine detail. To the verso is a strung rope for hanging. This mask is likely from the Burkina Faso, or Mali region of West Africa, similar in style to that of the Bobo and Senufo people.
