An oil painting on canvas titled Lottie by well-known American artist Astley Cooper (1856-1924), created in 1920. Featured is a profile portrait of a young woman in a fine dress and lavish hat embellished with ribbons and flowers. Her jewelry and embroidered trimmings are rendered with detailed impasto while her porcelain skin and immediate surroundings are smooth and painterly. This work is signed and dated in paint to the bottom left corner. It is presented in a painted green and gold-tone gesso frame with suspended acanthus moulding; hanging wire is present to verso.

Astley Cooper was an artist from San Jose, California known for his paintings of the early American frontier and Native American life. He gained a reputation as a Bohemian artist when he moved to San Francisco at age 24, and was even asked to paint an official portrait of President Ulysses S. Grant. Cooper also became very well-known for throwing lavish parties and paying his many bar tabs with his own paintings of nude women. In his lifetime, he painted over a thousand paintings, and was exhibited internationally.

- to fair; minor marks present to painting; small areas of craquelure present consistent with age; pieces of the suspended acanthus moulding have chipped off, mostly to the right side; other chipping and scratches present to frame; toning to paint consistent with age; dust and debris pockets.
