A hand knotted Indo-Persian wool area rug made by Agrippa in India. The rug carpet has an oval central medallion in red infilled with arabesques and foliar designs in shades of light blue, rust, sage green, ivory, leaf green, and camel. The surrounding field is ivory. It is populated with arabesques and floral and foliar designs in the same palette. The spandrels are primarily leaf green with arabesque and floral designs in camel, rust, sage green, and ivory. The blue and ivory guard borders flank a primary rust border with a large lotus and floral pattern. There is cotton fringe at each end. A label attached to the reverse identifies the rug, ‘All Pure New Wool Pile/Genuine Agrippa/One of the World’s Finest Rugs/Loom Size 4.10 × 8.8/Hand Woven in India’. A second label states it is a ‘Custom Made Carpet/Hand Woven in India. Especially for Rutolo’.
