An oil painting on canvas titled Myrtle by Edgar Yaeger (American, 1904-1997), executed in 1986. Dressed in all green is a women seated in purple chair with draped orange fabric. To the left wall is a dark navy tone with a light grey wall to the right. Rendered in bold brush strokes and light impasto. Signed and dated to the lower right in paint. Presented without glass, housed in a teal colored wood frame.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
