Peter Keil Acrylic Painting on Canvas Abstract Portrait

Item Details

An acrylic painting on a cotton canvas with a fleeced surface of an abstract portrait by listed German expressionist artist Peter Keil (b. 1942), created in1983. Depicted is an abstracted face with large eyes and vibrant colors. Signed, dated, and marked ‘Berlin’ to the lower right corner. Presented stretched on wooden bars that has been stamped twice by the Peter Keil Museum, West Palm Beach, Florida.

Influenced by German Expressionism and graffiti elements, Keil is known for his simplified abstractions of traditional art subjects. He studied under Otto Nagel at a young age and developed relationships with other renowned artists such as Joan Miro. His style underwent a series of noticeable transformations due to personal experiences and his developing passion for travel. This metamorphosis was first observed during the 1960s, and within a decade his spontaneous and exuberant signature style was established. Keil chooses flowers, portraits, cityscapes, and landscapes as his preferred subjects. Alongside the occasional sculpture in steel and wood, he is also an experienced ceramicist.
